Notes from West Mountain …

By the Rev. Mark Diters

The New Year’s Here! 2022!

…but first…

Hallmark’s Lament

The cards were all purchased well in advance

They sat there all season waiting their chance

The stamps all rolled tight, there on a table

Christmas’ greeting, angels, stars and a stable

Christmas came and left like a slow moving train

Apologies seem hollow but they’re called for just the same

Absent any writing the cards sit silently still

Barring a miracle, stay there they will

So sorry I failed to send a Christmas greeting

Our time is so short and the moments are fleeting

God’s blessing be on you all, have no fear

And the cards might get sent early next year.

Peace and Merry Christmas!

And…HAPPY NEW YEAR!

WOW…World Of Wonder…look around you, we are now nearly in 2022. What do you see?

What are the wonders you overlook right in your own home? What are the miracles you fail to notice even though they are right before your eyes? We are gloriously alive. Our bodies might remind us each day of our advancing years, yet they still serve us well enough.

When we think of wonders we  often look to the big things, the dazzling displays, the overwhelming events. Yet it is the miracle of the moment, it is the wink of an eye, a glance from a loved one, a touch, ever so gentle of a child, that reminds us of our worth and of the importance of those in our midst.

2022 is calling upon us, knocking at the door, peeking around the corner, tapping at the window pane… Hope is ours, love, life and life beyond life are very much in our grasp. Is there any greater wonder than sharing ourselves with one another, in any way we can? We are here, we are in God’s creation, we are witnessing the world play out and let us smile. Open yourself to the wonder, and the wonder will be yours. Happy New Year!
