December 2016 Newsletter

Notes from West Mountain  What I love about Christmas… “The light of the world…” Christmas comes but once a year. It is so true. When I think of this I am reminded that “once a year” used to be a week or two prior to Christmas through New Year’s Day. While in recent past it begins in a real way around Halloween and lasts a full two months. And this does not take into consideration the families and homes that somehow manage to ...

November 2016 Newsletter

Notes from West Mountain “Gifts of the Spirit…” Romans 12 Greetings! Gratitude Sunday is November 20, just before Thanksgiving! The world keeps spinning, November arrives with the subtle reminders of the winter to come; grass, discolored and slow to grow, stubborn leaves still cling to their branches awaiting another cold snap to do its work, and enduring summer drought conditions linger, causing one to wonder over water supplies and just how much snow might fall in the next months. (It is New England after ...

October 2016 Newsletter

Notes from West Mountain White Privilege “We are perpetually being told that what is wanted is a strong man (sic) who will do things. What is really wanted is a strong man (sic) who will undo things; and that will be the real test of strength.” -G. K. Chesterton   Where does one begin? No matter what feelings you experience when you hear the phrase “Black lives matter,” it cannot be argued that the phrase has not focused the public attention. And the phrase ...

Summer 2016 Letter

To One and All!                                                                                                                       July, 2016 Due to our softer and gentler winter, schools were dismissed a full week earlier than usual, which might give one the impression that we have an extra week of summer this year! If only we could wake one Monday morning and realize that we had a whole week with time on our hands and not so much to do. That being said…summer so far and out ahead…  YSOP Four of ...

June 2016 Newsletter

Notes from West Mountain   The Preacher, speaking in Ecclesiastes says, “I have seen the business that God has given to everyone to be busy with.” And truly, June is busting out all over! With graduations and school programs and music recitals and sports finals and the like all wrapping up for the summer…Like Willy Wonka says, “There is so little to do, and so much time! No, stop, reverse that.” There are a number of dates and events we would hope all ...

May 2016 Newsletter

Notes from West Mountain  There is something restless about May. Liturgically, we are still within the Easter season and with spring emerging everywhere it is natural to feel and embrace the rich variety of newness, growth and color exploding about us. All this seems to breed a sense of what’s next? The expectant wondering at the dawn of a day…the anticipation of what else is coming… replaces the “is that all there is?” of the winter now past. "…its spring fever…you don’t ...

April 2016 Newsletter

Notes from West  Mountain                                                                              The clocks have leaped ahead. Baseball begins in less than a week. And of course, Easter has just passed. Liturgically we are now in what is known as the Easter Season which spans the next seven Sundays until Pentecost, the birth of the Christian movement itself. He is risen! He is risen indeed! This is the central claim of our faith, without which the rest of what we do is no different than scores of other human ...
